Strategies for Improving School-Industry Collaborations for Effective Students' Industrial Attachment in Technical Colleges of Gombe State

Abstract

This study was on strategies for improving school-industry collaborations for effective
student’s industrial attachment in technical colleges of Gombe state. The study has 2
main objectives. Survey design was used for the study. The study was conducted in
Gombe state of Nigeria Structured questionnaire was developed by the researcher and
was validated by 3 experts in the Department of Technology Education, Moddibo
Adama University of Technology Yola. The population of the study was made up of
164 Technical College Teachers, six principals of the technical colleges, and thirtythree (33) Industry Based Supervisors at the industries and organizations that accept
technical students on Industrial Attachment, making a total number of 203
respondents. There were no sampled and sampling techniques because the population
of the study is manageable. The data collected for the study were analysed using
statistical package of social sciences (SPSS)version 23. Mean and standard deviation
were used to answer the research question. The findings of the study revealed that,
industry-based supervisors, principals and the technical teachers all agreed among
others that setting up a technical committee that will improve school-industry
collaborations. The study recommends that to achieved school-industry
collaborations, government should set up of committees and enact a law to compel
collaborations between technical schools and industries. School-industry activities such as conferences, workshops, seminars, and research work should be reorganized
between technical colleges and industries.
