Influence of Media on Teaching and Learning English Language in Selected Secondary Schools in Ogbomoso North LGA Oyo State

Abstract

The paper investigates the Influence of media on teaching and learning of English
Language in some selected secondary schools in Ogbomoso Oyo State. The
objectives of the study are to identify media available for teaching and learning of
English Language and to identify different types of media resources available to
find out the frequency to which instructional media are used in teaching English
Language, find out the influence of media on teaching learning English Language.
The paper adopted descriptive research design with a population of One Hundred
and twenty (120) respondents. Eighty (80) participants were used as sample. Eighty
(80) questionnaires were administered and retrieved. Data collected were
analyzed using simple percentage, tables and frequencies. The findings revealed
that, there was no any instructional media available in the selected secondary
schools. It was recommended that school management should make modern
instructional media available for teaching and learning. They include modern
media such as overhead projector, computers, video tapes, cameras, and
radio/television and film projectors to influences teaching and learning in this 21st
century. They should also ensure regular power supply for the electronic
instructional media in the schools. Conclusion, recommendations and suggestions
were made.
