THE NEED FOR IMPROVED TEACHING STRATEGIES IN TECHNICAL EDUCATION SECTOR FOR ACHIEVING QUALITY TECHNICAL EDUCATION
Nigeria in recent years has realized a rapid drop in its quality of education. This
is perhaps as a result of poor implementation of the educational policies. It is no
doubt that no nation can rise above its quality of education. Quality education
could only be achieved if all the education stakeholders put hands on deck in
ensuring that educational plans and policies are well implemented at all levels.
This paper recognizes Teacher as the principal actor in the implementation of
educational policies. This motivated the writer to make critical look at teaching
strategies adopted by technical teachers and the ways to improve them, for
achieving quality education specifically in Technical education programmes. An
attempt was made in this paper to stress the need for improving teaching strategies
in the technical education sector for achieving quality technical education in
Nigeria. The paper also examined technical education in the present-day Nigeria.
It further highlighted the role of teachers in the implementation of technical
education policies and the competences needed in technical teachers to achieve
educational goals. The paper then examined some of the factors militating against
effective teaching and learning technology education in Nigeria. Finally, the paper
recommended among others; educational administrators and policy makers to
motivate the changing agent (Teachers), periodic workshops and seminars for
teachers as essential in improving teaching strategies
