Effective Transition-to-Work of Bachelor Degree Graduates in Technology Education from Gombe and Potiskum Affiliated Institutions

Abstract

The need for effective transition –to – work of bachelor degree graduates in Technology education cannot be over emphasized. However, there has been growing concern among industrialist that graduates of tertiary institutions do not posses adequate work-skill necessary for employment. Therefore, the purpose for this study is to determine the transition –to – work of bachelor degree in education (technology) students of Gombe and Postiskum affiliated institutions, using a descriptive survey design. A total of 78 technology education lecturers and 23 technology industrial supervisors constituted the population and no sample taken. Five point scale questionnaire was used for data collection. The reliability coefficient yield 0.81 using Cronbach alpha. Mean and Standard Deviation were employed to answer research questions while t-test was used to test null hypotheses. The result of the study revealed that technology education lecturers and technology industrial supervisor agreed that there is need for effective school based activities and work base activities. It was concluded from the study that there should be informal linkages between the school and the industry for Lecturers skills update in the industry related to their field.
