THE CONTIBUTIONS OF BASIC EDUCATION TO NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA
Abstract
This paper seeks to examine the contributions of Basic Education to National Development in Nigeria. Secondary data were adopted as the source of information for the findings. Based on the literature reviewed in this research, it was concluded that despite the challenges faced by basic education in Nigeria, it still remained paramount to the National Development of Nigeria. However, for education at this level to be more relevant and contribute more to the Nigerian National Development, it was recommended that Basic education planning should always be handled by educationists who are trained and well informed on the task. Government should also ensure adequate supervision and monitoring of the sector. Teachers’ salary payment should always be prompt and regular and there should be adequate utilization of research finds.
