Abstract

Hatchability research trials was conducted during the rainy season of 2018 at the Federal College of Education (Tech.) Gombe incubation unit, Gombe is intersected by 110 02! East longitude and 100 19! North latitude and has an average elevation of 380 meter above sea level. This region belongs to the Northern Guinea savannah ecological zone of Nigeria, to analyses the results of five incubation trials of guineafowl eggs for the purpose of evaluating the performance of kerosene incubator constructed for research project. Period of egg collection and source of eggs were observed to have significant effects on fertility, hatchability, and dead-in-shell embryos. Fertility and hatchability were lowest during the early rainy season May to June. Highest fertility and hatchability and moderate dead-in-shell results, were observed during the July to September periods which is an indication of the high performance of our kerosene incubator in this trial. Also, a period of maximum Sperrnatogenic activities in guinea-fowl (June to September) are suggested as the best months to collect and hatch eggs in the study area.
