Availability and Utilization of Resource for Teaching and Learning of Building Technology in Federal Colleges of Education (Technical) in North Eastern Nigeria

Abstract

This study investigate the availability and utilization of resources for teaching and learning of building technology course in Federal Colleges of Education (Technical) in North East States of Nigeria. Survey design was used for the study. Two research questions guided the study and two null hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significant. The population of the study was one hundred and fifty six (156) which constituted all building technology education lecturers, students and supportive staff in the Building Technology Department in the two Federal College of Education (Technical) within the study area. The instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire tagged“ Availability and Utilization of Resources for Teaching and Learning of Building Technology Education Questionnaire (AURTLBTEQ) developed by the researcher. The instrument was validated by three experts and thereafter subjected to reliability test.The reliability coefficient of the instruments was found to be 0.90 using Cronbach’s Alpha method.The reliability of the instrument which was obtained after pilot test was calculated using Cronbach Alpha and was found to be 0.87. The data collected was analysed using mean and standard deviation for the research questions.  While Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used to test the five formulated hypotheses at 0.05 level of significancewith MS Excel 2010. The findings of the study revealed material resources are moderately available for teaching and learning of building technology education in the Federal Colleges of Education (Technical) within the study.The available material resources were found to be moderately utilized for teaching and learning of building technology education in Federal Colleges of Education (Technical) Gombe and Potiskum.The study further revealed that, at 0.05 level of significance and 25 degree of freedom, there is no significant difference in the mean response of building technology education lecturers, supportive staff and students on the availability of material resources for effective teaching and learning of building technology education in Federal Colleges of Education (Technical). The study also revealed that there is no significant difference in the mean response of building technology education lecturers, supportive staff and students on the rate of utilization of the available material resources in building technology education in Federal Colleges of Education (Technical).
